Fountain of Youth Serum

• Jojoba oilNot really an oil. Jojoba is a liquid wax ester — the same class of molecule that makes up about a quarter of human sebum — which is why it feels dry rather than heavy and absorbs without residue. Wax esters are also far slower to go rancid than true oils, so it keeps the jar stable.
• Castor oilRoughly ninety per cent ricinoleic acid, an unusual fatty acid carrying an extra hydroxyl group. That is what makes castor oil so much thicker than other plant oils, and it is what gives the whip its cushion and stops the texture collapsing into a grease.
• Rosehip oilCold-pressed from rosehip seeds and unusually high in linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid — light, polyunsaturated fats that absorb quickly. That composition is why the serum sinks in fast and leaves skin looking bright rather than shiny.
• Frankincense oilSteam-distilled from the hardened resin of the Boswellia tree, used in perfumery for thousands of years. It is the reason the base smells warm and faintly resinous rather than of nothing at all, and it is in every scent we make.
